Jan Wysocki (Mysłowice 1873 - 1960 Katowice) – Polish painter and sculptor – medals creator. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Paris and Rome. From 1901, he lived in Munich for three years, where he exhibited his paintings. In 1904 he went to Katowice, where he founded an art school. From 1908, he traveled for two years in Paris, where he exhibited his medals. In 1920, he took the position of deputy director and professor of the Sculpture and Bronze Art Department at the State School of Art Industry in Bydgoszcz. In 1923 he moved to Poznań, where he became the head of the Sculpture and Bronze Art Department at the Institute of Fine Arts. During the German occupation, he worked as a manual laborer and organized secret art courses. His artistic achievements include over 150 cast medals, medallions and plaques as well as a few paintings. He was inspired by the art of antiquity and the Renaissance.
