Leon Kowalski (Kiev 1870 - 1937 Cracow) - started education at the painting school by Mikołaj Muraszko.In the years 1891-93 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Władysław Łuszczkiewicz, Leopold Loeffler and Leon Wyczółkowski. Thanks to scholarship he studied in Munich in the studio of Kral Raupp and in Paris in the ateliers of Jean Paul Laurens, Jean Paul Benjamin Constant and Ernest Girardot. He traveled to France, Italy and Germany. From 1905 he lived and worked in Cracow. In the years 1912-20 lived in Kiev where he worked at the Academy of Fine Arts and was co-founder of The Polish Fine Arts School. He painted portraits, genre and religious scenes, landscapes with blooming flowers and trees.
