Józef Mikołaj Pochwalski (Kraków 1888-1963 Kraków) painter and graphic artist. He belonged to the family of Krakow painters. He spent his childhood and youth in Vienna, where his father was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. He studied at the Vienna Academy in 1907-1912 under the direction of R. Bacher and F. Rumpler, then at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under the direction of K. Marr. From 1913 to 1914 he worked in Paris. In the years 1924/5-1925/6 he went to the graphic studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under the direction of Leon Wyczółkowski. Initially he made oil painting, landscapes and portraits. He painted religious paintings for churches in Kraków, Proszowice and Bogdanów. Gradually, graphics began to dominate his work. The theme of his graphics were mostly portraits, architectural views of various cities, monuments. The artist's works are in museums in Chorzów, Vilnius and Lviv.
