Jerzy Makarewicz (Wiedeń 1907 - 1944 Kraków) –Polish painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in the studio of Władysław Jarocki and in Warsaw in the atelier of Tadeusz Pruszkowski. After studies he returned to Kraków and continued education with Fryderyk Pautsch. In 1936 he bought a circus wagon and organized a “mobile atelier” to work in plenair. In 1943 he was arrested and in 1944 murdered in concentration camp in Kraków Płaszów. He did not take part in exhibitions, the first posthumous exhibition of Jerzy Makarewicz's works took place in 1945, and another in 1965. Jerzy Makarewicz was the son of the painter Juliusz Makarewicz and brother of Maciej - graphic artist and illustrator.
