Jadwiga Rubiś (Kraków 1948 - 2000) – photographer and journalist. She studied history of art at the Jagiellonian University and journalism at the Postgraduate College of Journalism at the University of Silesia. Fascinated with art, she first took artistic photography, took part in the First and Second International Salon of Artistic Photography of the Act and Portrait of "Venus" in 1971 and 1972, organized by the Krakow Photographic Society. She participated in students photographic movement and collaborated with students magazines, including Politechnic, Itd, then professionally with Echo Krakowa (from 1973), Dziennik Polski and Gazeta Krakowska. Rubiś published in weeklies and magazines, among others in Przekrój, Twój Styl, Film and Sezon. She had many group and individual exhibitions in Krakow clubs: Pod Jaszczurami, Pod Gruszką, Kraków Television Center, Gallery of Polonia House in Kraków. In 2008 her works were shown in group exhibition Documentary Makers in Zachęta in Warsaw. Her photos Solidarność '80 and '81 and Martial Law in Kraków were presented in Germany. She collaborated with Krakow museums, galleries and theatres. Working in everyday city magazines meant that she treated photographs as a tool for journalistic expression. She considered the purpose of her activity to document the life of the city in all its manifestations, especially in the field of culture - visual arts.
