August Heinrich Ewers , Heinz Ewers (Wismar 1817 - 1885 Düsseldorf) was a German painter of the Düsseldorf School.In 1836 Ewers began to study sculpture at the Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin . At the same time he worked as a furniture draftsman, he also designed fabric samples and wallpapers. In Düsseldorf he established himself as a painter. There he had been a member of the Malkasten artists' association since 1861 and was one of the close friends of the history and genre painter Hermann Becker. Around 1864 Ewers met Maria from Weerth. In 1869 they married and moved into the house at Immermannstrasse 22. In 1871 the son Hanns Heinz Ewers was born, later a famous writer of fantasy, in 1873 the son Ernst Gustav, later Rear Admiral of the Provisional Imperial Navy. Friedrich Franz II. The Grand Duke of Mecklenburg - Schwerin , appointed Ewers as his court painter .
