The set contains two vases and jardinière; maiolica, signed.

Gustave De Bruyn was born in Leuven in 1838 and later on settled in Lille where he died in 1916. De Bruyn started his first ceramics studio in a district of Lille, Wazemmes, in 1862. In 1864, he settled in the neighboring Fives-Lille where he was active with his brothers and sons. This family De Bruyn was already active in the faiencerie during the 18th century in Lille, France. In 1864, Antoine Gustave De Bruyn started a new company in Fives-Lille. Barbotine ceramics was made there since 1887. Antoine was followed by his son Denis.
