Oil on canvas, signed lower right: "A.Sandoz". On the reverse of the Paris seal and the ownership sticker with the title and number from the collection: "Raphael de Lamartin No.3 XXXIII".

Framed: 56x44 cm (46x32 cm). 

Adolf Karol Sandoz (borin in 1845, Trybusówka) - Polish architect and painter, son of Fryderyk and Józefa Suchowiecki. In 1848, together with his family, he went to Switzerland first, then to France. Initially, he studied architecture, from 1866 at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, then painting under the direction of E.Delevnay and Puvis de Chavannes. He traveled through Austria, Italy, Germany, he was in Africa, twice in the Sahara. In 1882, he went to El Kantara. In 1925 he settled permanently in France. He painted oriental scenes, caravans, desert landscapes, Arabian types, he was a recognized portraitist. He also worked as an illustrator and published his works in well-known Paris publishing houses: Hachette, Quantin and Delagrave. He exhibited in Paris, Krakow and Lviv.
